There are many advantages to driving an Electric Vehicle. The most important ones being leaving a smaller carbon footprint and saving money by not paying for gas.

Other advantages of driving an Electric Vehicle could be a thrilling acceleration, high-end gadgets, and a spacious interior.

Ther are currently 2 types of plug-in Electric Vehicles; they are:

  • Battery Electric Vehicles are also known as BEV
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles are also known as PHEV

BEVs run entirely on electricity stored in battery cells and can be recharged by using an EV Charger.

PHEVs run by using a combination of electricity and gasoline. It allows drivers to drive long distance by using the Hybrid technology, and short distances by using electricity stored in the battery.

Electric Vehicles today charge by using one of the 3 levels listed below:

Level 1 Charging: Slow charge by using 120 volts AC and can take anywhere from 3 to 7 hours to charge PHEVs and 9 to 20 hours to charge BEVs.

Level 2 Charging: Fast charge by using 240 volts AC. They can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours to charge PHEV’s and 4-8 to charge BEVs.

Level 3 Charging: Very fast charging by using 480 volts DC. They can take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes to charge a PHEV to the 80% point. For BEV’s, this process takes 10 to 30 minutes to get to the 60% point.
